BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Sophomore Holly Constants scored Bryn Mawr's only goal Saturday afternoon as the Owls feel to Gettysburg 4-1 in Centennial conference action.
Gettsyburg jumped-out to a 1-0 lead at 13:28 when Erica Barbuto put a loose ball in front of the net into the back of the cage. The Bullets continued to pressure the Owls, but Bryn Mawr made noise themselves as they marched down the field into their offensive half of the field multiple times.
The consistency paid off for the Owls as Constants took a pass from classmate Ashley Arbuckle following a scrum in front of Gettysburg's goalie to tie the game at 1-1. Constant's goal is the first time since 2006 that the owls have scored on Gettysburg.
The tie was short lived as Gettysburg's Liz Baron took a feed from Emily Kleinburd less than two minutes later to regain the lead for the Bullets. The first-half would come to a close with Gettysburg holding a 2-1 lead.
In the second-half it was Kleinburd on the other end, scoring the goal, with help from Kelly Madden. With just under 20-minutes left in the game, the Bullets added to their lead when Kelly Spieker found the back of the cage. Gettysburg's defense passed the test that the Bryn Mawr offensive gave them down the homestretch to hold on to the 4-1 win.
In the net, freshman Alex Weinfeld posted 13 saves while the Owls tallied seven shots. Leading the way for the Owls with three shots was Arbuckle.
Constant's goal is the fifth time this season the Owls have scored against a Centennial Conference opponent. The last time the Owls scored five or more goals against the conference in a season was 2004 when the Yellow and White tallied six goals.
Bryn Mawr is back to action when they welcome Bi-Co rival Haverford to Applebee Field for a 4:30 pm contest on Thursday, Oct. 18.
