BRYN MAWR, Pa. – After starting the season 3-0, the best start for the program since 1987, the Bryn Mawr College field hockey team dropped their first game of the year to Albright, 4-0, in the championship game of the 2012 BMC Field Hockey Tournament.
The opening half saw a majority of back-and-forth play between both the Owls and the Lions, until Albright broke the 0-0 deadlock with a goal in the 20th minute by Alyssa Tourdot.
The Owls' defense was tested many times in the second part of the first-half, but key stops by freshman Ashlee Williams and Kayla Bixler, and the goaltending of junior co-captain Faith Westdorp, kept the Lions tamed. The Owls were held without a shot the final 15-minutes of the half while Albright took a 1-0 lead into the half.
The Lions added three more goals in the second-half. The first of the second-half came in the 51st minute from the stick of Kaitlyn Pietrusewicz while Tourdot added her second goal of the game in the five minutes later. The final goal of the game came in the 65th minute when Allison Dombrowski found the back of the cage. The win moves Albright to 3-1 on the season while the Owls fall to 3-1.
Bryn Mawr had a couple of key opportunities to score, by the Lions' defense, anchored by goalie Marguerite DeLucas, held the Yellow and White scoreless for the first time this season.
In goal for the Owls, Westdorp posted 18 saves on 27 shots while her counterpart, DeLucas, posted seven saves on eight shots.
The Owls are back to action when they travel to Hood College on Saturday, Sept. 15, for a 4:00 pm contest with the Blazers.
