Bryn Mawr Athletics Celebrates Accomplishments and Accolades at 2018 Awards Banquet

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr College Athletics Department celebrated their annual Athletics Banquet on Tuesday evening, gathering to celebrate the accomplishments of teams and individuals from throughout the 2017-18 academic year.

Numerous dignitaries and friends of the department were on hand to witness, and in some cases present, awards to the school's distinguished student-athletes. President Kim Cassidy, Director of Athletics Kathy Tierney, and Dean of the Undergraduate College Jennifer Walters were just a few of the VIPs in attendance to help honor the hard work and effort that the student-athletes have put in all year long.

One of the major awards on the evening, the Jenepher P. Shillingford Award, goes to a member of the senior class who has demonstrated, throughout her four years: athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and leadership. This year's recipient was Kate Edwards (cross country/track & field).

The Ray Tharan Award is given to the student or campus community member who shows spirit, enthusiasm, and supports many athletic teams. This year the award was bestowed upon Jennifer Walters, Dean of the Undergraduate College, for her limitless support and enthusiasm for Bryn Mawr Athletics.

The Janet Yeager Cup goes to the individual who has given exceptional service to the athletic department. This award can go to a student and/or a member of the Bryn Mawr community. This year, the recipient of the Yeager Cup was Kara Breeden, a two-sport athlete who played soccer and basketball all four years at Bryn Mawr and has served as an effective and creative president for Bryn Mawr's SAAC during this past year.

Bryn Mawr crew's Emily Spiegel was named the recipient of this year's Anne Lee Delano Award. The Delano Award at its inception was the most prestigious award given by the department, and is presented to the outstanding senior scholar-athlete who exhibits scholarship, athletic excellence, and college service.

Elizabeth Robinson, a longtime leader for the Bryn Mawr cross country and track & field teams, received the first of the major department awards given out on the evening, the "Challenge Accepted" Award for Strength & Conditioning.
