Bryn Mawr, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr Athletics department, in its year-long effort to assist in the battle against breast cancer, has announced its fall sports "Owls Fight for a Cure - Pink Week".
Last year, the department raised over 1,300 dollars to go towards breast cancer research and the Barbara Brodsky Comprehensive Breast Center at Bryn Mawr Hospital. This week, October 19th through the 24th, is the first big push by the department to raise awareness and money through the fall sports. All of the squads will be participating in "pink-outs", and will be wearing some sort of pink gear such as sweatbands or shoelaces during their matches, races, and other competitions. The major events are listed below:
- Wednesday, October 21st @ 7:00 PM - Volleyball match against Haverford (Class of 1958 Gymnasium)
- Saturday, October 24th @ 1:00 PM - Field Hockey game against Johns Hopkins (Applebee Field)
There will be donation jars at both home events, as well as in Uncommon Grounds and the fitness center desk all week! If anyone would like to add a pink ribbon to honor a current cancer fighter and/or survivor to the wall of ribbons in the Schwartz Athletic and Fitness Center, or for any other questions about the "Owls Fight for a Cure" program, contact Coach Becky Tyler at firstname.lastname@example.org or Bryn Mawr SAAC at email@example.com.
Lastly, we invite all students, faculty, and staff to attend the games next week and wear their pink to help us continue to raise awareness as they cheer on the Owls!
